“The controversy started because in order to have a medication approved by the FDA as an antidepressant, it has to outdo the placebo statistically, which antidepressants do. But the difference between the response to the antidepressant and the response to the placebo is very, very small—it’s so small it’s clinically meaningless,” said Dr. Irving Kirsch in his discussion with clinical psychologist, Dr. Michael Yapko and Mindset Health’s Claire Davidson.
In this webinar they discuss the role of antidepressants in managing depression. Dr. Kirsch shares insights into his landmark research on the placebo effect and its curious relationship to the presumed merits of antidepressant medications. While Dr. Yapko discusses drug treatment limitations based on the substantial evidence indicating that depression is a social problem more than a medical one.
Both Dr. Yapko and Dr. Kirsch are members of Mindset Health's Scientific Board of Advisors.
