After years of chronic pain and failed treatments, Janalyssa was skeptical about hypnosis, but ultimately found relief and control through the Relio program. Turning scepticism into belief

I had recently had a hypnotherapy session with a psychologist that did not go well at all, it was impersonal and raised my anxiety tenfold instead of the opposite so I was sceptical to say the least when I came across the hypnosis apps with Mindset health.

It took a few times of seeing the advertisements on Instagram before I decided to ask some questions. I initially started with the IBS Nerva app and found it extremely helpful with my gut issues so when the Relio back pain app was launched I was more than happy to give it a go.

Janalyssa’s journey with chronic pain

I have suffered with chronic pain for just over 4 years now following an autoimmune disorder response after initially contracting Encephalitis (a brain virus). This spiralled my immune system and I then contracted a severe bowel bug called Clostridium Difficile. It literally destroyed my good bacteria from my gut and required 8 months of antibiotics to settle it into a dormant stage.

Unfortunately I have it for life and with that a weakened immune system, heightened nervous system, spondiloarthritis which effects my spine predominantly but branches out to my limbs, and I also suffer with daily headaches, chronic migraines, seizures, vertigo and my anxiety levels have been out of control, leading to depression and social anxiety. All from a viral response!

So to say the least, I need all the help I can get.

I don’t work (unable to) and have more bad than good days, some crippling! I have also spent a lot of unnecessary time and thousands of dollars on specialist appointments, treatments and medications, some have helped but mostly it’s a bandaid result. The problem still remains along with the suffering.

Understanding the back brain connection

What Mindset Health has done for me is given me the education I’ve not received from specialists about my brain to gut connection and brain to back connection, the ‘message bank’ for our pain responses. By understanding why our body responds to pain, it allows us to self regulate and manage the responses. By desensitising our emotional and physical responses we can help to improve our outcomes, little by little.

The experience of clinical hypnosis

The hypnosis sessions can be done at your own leisure in your own personal space - ‘our safe space’, so far more effective than in a practice room with someone you don’t know or maybe don’t feel comfortable enough to really relax with.

The Relio app has given me back some control and confidence to know that there is some light ahead.

The hypnosis sessions have significantly reduced my anxiety attacks and levels, they’ve taught me how to control my emotions at the time of relaxing and releasing tension, something I wasn’t able to achieve before.

On the road to recovery

My pain is still there but I understand it more now so it doesn’t seam to escalate as rapidly as before and I know that my body still does actually work, that I’m not going to ‘break’ if I do activity.

It’s the little act of achieving small goals, one day at a time that really matters and knowing I can accomplish relaxation if I put my mind into the right state which in turn will make significant changes to my pain levels.
